Dyslexia is a common learning difficulty that can cause problems with reading, writing and spelling.
It's a "specific learning difficulty", which means it causes problems with certain abilities used for learning, such as reading and writing.
It's estimated that up to 1 in every 10 to 20 people in the UK has some degree of dyslexia.

Service Description
Access arrangements for examinations are recommended for students approaching formal examinations such as SATs, GCSEs, A Levels or degree level qualifications. An assessment is carried out to identify whether the student will need extra examination time, reading assistance or a scribe, which should reflect their normal way of working within their studies. The assessment measures speed of reading, writing and processing, as well as looking at other areas involved in examinations. However, a standalone assessment for exam arrangements is not the basis for a dyslexia diagnosis. The assessment usually takes between 1-2 hours depending on the student. All of the tests used reflect the standards required by JCQ (Joint Council Qualifications).
